    AWE is currently recruiting for a Process Specialist to contribute to the successful operations for the hydrodynamics delivery unit, delivering energetic trials mainly through explosively driven processes. This role is key to AWE's core mission and provides a great opportunity to be part of the nuclear weapons programme.

    Location - Reading area

    Package - £25,800 - £35,000pa (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

    As a Process Specialist, your work will support the validation of current products and the certification of future products. The operations team provide the science and engineering teams support throughout the process including working with explosives and in hazardous environment post firing of a trial. There will be opportunities to develop into other areas of Hydrodynamics if interested.

    What will you be responsible for?

    • Accountable for the supervision of the process operations team conducting tasks in support of energetic trials.
    • Responsible for developing the team and maintaining competency required to work in the Hydrodynamics firing area.
    • Responsible for updating work instructions, risk assessments and method statements in order to support activities in the firing area.
    • Responsible for the planning and allocation of tasks in support of the operations manager and firing area priorities.
    • Maintaining personal standards in behaviours, training competency and work ethic in order to be part of a high performing team.
    • Support routine tasks in the firing area, including but not exclusive: pre firing set up for trials, Post firing clean up of trials, management of trial waste in support of the area waste officer, support to the firing officer and support to the facility team in the operation and maintenance of the firing area.
    • Maintain competence of an explosives worker
    • Support emergency response capability to the facility

    What will you need to be considered

    • Experience working as part of a team in an operational role or organisation
    • Evidence of delivering to plan/schedule
    • Good communication skills (written and oral)
    • Good organisational and problem-solving skills
    • Working knowledge of MS based applications including Word and excel

    Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
