    3 months contract with Waltham Forest Council Job Summary: Manage a sub section of the Family team of child protection lawyers and paralegals. To lead and manage a specialist team of Senior Lawyers and Lawyers ensuring the delivery of the service meets all Council, professional and legal requirements in accordance with business and service plans. To support the Assistant Director, Litigation and Public Law Commercial Law Family Law develop and deliver business and service plans within the Litigation and Public Law Commercial Law Family Law Team and across the Legal Services teams. Ensure that clients of Legal Services, managers and members receive timely, accurate and expert legal advice, guidance and support within the specialism that serves the stated aims and outcomes of the Council. To personally undertake high priority complex and/or sensitive legal work within the teams specialist areas as required by the nature of the work and/or as directed by the Assistant Director, Litigation and Public Law Commercial Law Family Law . Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): Contribute to the corporate management and strategic direction of the Legal Services function, within the Finance and Governance Directorate and wider Council as a member of the Legal Management Team, and deputising for the Assistant Director as required. Contribute to the development of the Legal Services teams business and service plans and be accountable for the delivery of the Litigation Commercial Family team s objectives, financial targets (expenditure and income generation) and performance levels in accordance with those plans. Take responsibility for all local authority law and governance issues within the remit of the team, including advising Cabinet, members, senior managers in reports or in person where required. Provide legal advice in the preparation of reports for Cabinet, committees and subgroups in areas of relevant law, completing and providing sound and robust legal implications within reports where required Lead and direct a specialist team of senior lawyers, lawyers and legal officers, in particular to ensure the delivery of high quality, cost-effective legal services to users, using the opportunities of new technology and new ways of working. Ensure that appropriate advice is made available to Legal Services clients, members, the chief executive, executive and strategic directors, heads of service and other senior officers as required. Essential Experience Required: Relevant post qualification experience in the legal profession commensurate with the seniority of the post. Substantial and successful management experience including personnel management, and client liaison Working in or acting for a local authority or similar organisation. Essential Qualification Required: Admitted UK Solicitor/Practicing barrister or equivalent Currently has or is immediately able to obtain a practising certificate Additional information to note: This position is located at Waltham Forest Council offices.
