Senior Category Buyer - Plymouth - Attractive Salary TQR Plymouth is recruiting in partnership with one of Devon s highest profile employers; a manufacturing company renowned globally for its luxury products. As the business continues to ramp up its production to an all-time high to meet an ever-increasing customer base, the procurement has continued to expand and is now recruiting for a Category Buyer. We re looking to identify experienced buyers with proven strategic and analytical ability and a strong track record of success working within direct spend in a manufacturing environment, whether FMCG, automotive or engineering based. This is a busy, challenging role in a fast-paced manufacturing business. What will you be responsible for Responsible for the total cost of ownership and on-going supplier management of commodity groups for supplier spend in the range £10-30m. To ensure timely supply of purchased materials and services in line with business needs in the most cost effective & time critical way whilst ensuring safety and quality. What s the day-to-day detail Conduct routine strategic sourcing activities and lead on-going Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) initiatives with all suppliers in the nominated category group to manage the total cost of acquisition and support the needs of the business. Work collaboratively with Operations team and wider business stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in all aspects of supply of goods and services. Review & understand commodity and market pricing via analysis of raw material fluctuations, currency movement and market trends/demands to support cost reduction via negotiation, internal waste reduction projects & design/development improvements. Conduct strategic sourcing activities for your defined commodity groups using a category management toolkit, to derive term contracts, manage supply base and instigate supplier continuous improvement programmes. Construction and negotiation of supply contracts with external suppliers (using approved frameworks) Liaise with other members of the Operations group (e.g., Planning, Logistics, Production, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality) to ensure production supply is optimised for inventory and efficient/timely production schedule adherence including e.g., development of vendor managed inventory, quality audits, and supplier performance reviews. What experience are we looking for It s preferable that you have already performed a similar role in a large-scale, complex manufacturing business and have been responsible for a significant direct spend budget. Preferably already CIPS qualified or studying. Candidates with proven experience and not CIPS qualified also considered. Strong working knowledge of ERP systems and solid all-round IT literacy. A confident, skilled negotiator and influencer with strong commercial acumen, with proven experience of contract negotiation from a commercial and legal perspective. The role requires a proven leader ready to oversee exceptional team performance in a demanding environment.
