This position will form part of a well-established Software Engineering Department responsible for Sky's customer management platforms for Sky Glass, Sky Q, Mobile, Broadband & Talk and exciting future products; this position will report into the Head of Software Engineering.

The role will have overall responsibility for the Software Engineering teams who adopt agile methodologies to implement, build and assure solutions that deliver amazing features and capabilities for our Advisors and Customers.

What you'll do:

• Lead, inspire and grow a cross-functional team of software engineers & developers to deliver outstanding software solutions for our customers
• Build a pipeline of talent by providing training, mentoring, and coaching to your immediate reports, ensuring this is cascaded across the software engineering teams to create an environment where collaboration, inclusion and shared goals are promoted
• Collaborate with the Software Engineering leadership and engineering colleagues to drive the refinement and execution of our software engineering lifecycle
• Collaborate across the Software Engineering organisation to promote and drive the continuous evolution of the ways of working and including an operating model that promotes collaboration, quality, efficiency, and speed, using a data driven approach
• Oversee the delivery of projects an
• d programmes to ensure quality execution and alignment with the various delivery teams across Sky
• Manage the capacity & demand of the software engineering teams in collaboration with the delivery management teams, ensuring that the resourcing across the teams is managed effectively
• As a member of the department management team, remain aligned with the wider organisational goals and objectives, as well as to promote new ideas and approaches
• Ensure that the software engineering teams have all the required skills and be responsible for hiring and performance management

What you'll bring:

• An effective people leader, able to provide career development advice and mentoring where required
• Experience leading technical teams, able to provide thought leadership and critical thinking to deliver technology solutions in a fast-paced environment while nurturing our people maturing our teams
• Confidence and passion to adopt agile methodologies and able to balance engineering quality with business drivers and objectives
• A strong background in a technology environment, ideally software engineering and development with an understanding of large-scale architectures in an enterprise setting and business awareness.
• An understanding of deadlines, constraints and scope of delivery and experience working with the business partners to ensure the right balance between these are met, setting expectations and handling risks early.
• Comprehensive knowledge of, and proven experience applying, software delivery methodologies, techniques, and practices
• Brilliant communication skills - you can relate to people at all levels of the organisation, are credible with senior management, and are adept at conflict resolution
